Manuscript Submission Guidelines

China Review International publishes reviews of recent scholarly literature and "state-of-the-art" articles in all fields of Chinese studies. Reviews are generally published by invitation only; however, unsolicited reviews will be considered for publication based on merit.

Language - Reviews are published in English. If your review is written in another language, the original and an English translation are requested.

Length - The editorial policy of CRI is not to restrict the reviewer as to length of review. On average, most reviews have between 1000 and 2000 words. If you anticipate your review will be much longer than this, please negotiate an appropriate length with the editor.

Deadline - Please note that we expect to receive your completed review within two months of your receiving the book from us unless you otherwise inform us.

Submission media - Manuscripts should be submitted in the form of two paper copies and one copy of the review file on 3-1/2 inch computer diskette. We use Macintosh computers and can translate most IBM word processing programs. Please label the diskette with the book title, author's surname, and your surname.

Manuscript format - Please use 1-inch margins; format your notes, if any, as endnotes; and double-space all text, including book header, extracts, endnotes, bibliography and references. Chinese should be transliterated using the pinyin system. You may include Chinese characters in the body of your text, if desired. Please indicate the proper placement of diacritical marks for transliterated Japanese or Sanskrit words.

Publication data - Please list complete publication data from the title page or Library of Congress Cataloging-in-Publication Data page of the reviewed book at the head of your review, using the journal text as a style sheet. This includes the following elements (and please use this order): author(s) (including translators, compilers, editors, and writers of forewords, afterwords, and so on, if indicated), title, series, place of publication, press, date of publication, frontmatter pages, text pages, price (if available), and ISBN number. In addition, please indicate whether book is hardcover or paperback. For example:

Klaas Ruitenbeek. Carpentry and Building in Late Imperial China: A Study of the Fifteenth-Century Carpenter's Manual Lu Ban Jing. Sinica Leidensia, vol. 23. Leiden, New York and Köln: E. J. Brill, 1993. xvi, 520 pp. Hardcover $120.00, ISBN xxx-xxxxxx-x. Paperback $40.00, ISBN xxx-xxxxxx-x.

Author data - Please include your name and institutional affiliation at the end of your review, followed by a brief sentence describing yourself, e.g., "Jane Smith is an associate professor of history specializing in studies of the Cultural Revolution."
