My Brother Hideo Kobayashi

by Junko Takamizawa

ed. by Leith Morton
trans. by James Wada

University of Sydney East Asian Series, No. 14
Distributed for Wild Peony

This is a memoir of the brilliant literary critic Hideo Kobayashi (1902-1983). Written by his younger sister, this memoir is a moving portrait of the private man, of the human being behind the genius. The book complements the studies and translations of Kobayashi's works that are now beginning to appear in English.

James Wada is professor of language and culture at the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology. Leith Morton holds the Foundation Chair in Japanese at the University of Newcastle in Australia.
