Traditions of Meditation in Chinese Buddhism

ed. by Peter N. Gregory

Studies in East Asian Buddhism, #4
Kuroda Institute

“A veritable treasure trove.... Both demanding and tremendously rewarding.... The book is of high scholarly standard, but ... is clear, precise and a pleasure to read - and is certainly accessible to interested laymen. It cannot be recommended highly enough.” —The Middle Way, November 1993

“Each chapter in this volume is sophisticated, tightly argued, and well documented.... An important contribution to the literature on Buddhist meditation.” —Journal of Asian Studies 47 (1988)

Peter N. Gregory, professor of Buddhist Studies at the University of Illinois from 1984 to 1999, is currently the Jill Ker Conway Professor of Buddhist Studies at Smith College. He is also president and executive director of the Kuroda Institute for the Study of Buddhism. Daniel A. Getz, Jr., is assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Bradley University.
